Spring 2023 Add/Drop Dates—Undergraduate Students

Dining Plan Change and Cancellation Requests—All Students
Dining plan change and cancellation requests for the Spring 2023 semester are now being accepted online. The deadline to reduce or cancel the Spring 2023 meal plan is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Financial

First Day Digital Book Fees and Course Fees—Undergraduate Students
Now that the add/drop period is over for undergraduate students, please review term bills to see if any courses that were added had digital book or course fees. While course fees are mandatory, digital book fees (also known as First Day) are optional. Find out more about digital book fees and how to opt out of them at here. The deadline to waive the digital book charge is January 31, 2023. 

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Rutgers requires full-time and all F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The Health Insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is February 10, 2023.

• WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
• ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

Taxable Tuition Remission—Students Who are Staff or Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Spring 2023 withholding dates.

TA/GA/Fellows Payroll Deduction—Graduate Students
TAs, GAs, and Graduate Fellows may enroll in payroll deduction to make payments for charges not covered by tuition remission, such as housing, dining, or student fees. Please complete the online form to enroll in payroll deduction and view the Spring 2023 payroll deduction schedule here.

GradGuard Epidemic Coverage Endorsement—All Students
Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. The plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events that force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason, including mental health conditions and illness from epidemic and pandemic diseases. myGuest Authorized User Access for Term Bills, Grades, and More—All Students
Students can authorize a third party or a parent with access to review academic records, view financial aid rewards, or make payments on their behalf. To grant this access, students must log in to their myRutgers Dashboard, and use the "Authorized Access" icon to provide access to the desired authorized party. Additional instructions for the myGuest Dashboard can be found here.

One Stop Student Services Center and Walk-Ins—All Students
The One Stop Student Services Center (One Stop) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick represents an integrated and coordinated cross-functional service in the areas of financial aid, student accounts, and registration.  One Stop acts as a “single point of service” across these areas to promote a progressive, simplified, and consistent student experience and a culture that supports student satisfaction and success. Questions can be submitted using the contact form, by phone at 848-445-4636 (INFO), or by visiting the One Stop at Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor Hall located at 65 Davidson Road on Busch Campus. No appointments are necessary for walk-ins. The 2023 Rutgers–New Brunswick and RBHS Commencement ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at SHI Stadium. Information regarding regalia sales, parking registration, shout out filming, day-of information, and more is available on the website. Academics

Build-A-Study-Schedule—All Students
Students can drop-in to the Learning Centers to work with an Academic Coach on building a study schedule tailored to them and based on best practices of studying and effective time management. Students may stop in at any point during the designated times and bring syllabi from all classes. Remaining workshops will be held on Tuesday, January 31 (4:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m. on Zoom) and on Thursday, February 2 (9 a.m.–noon in the College Avenue Learning Center in the Academic Building). Learn more and register for a session here.

First year students seeking more credits or a unique exploratory course are invited to register for a 1-credit Byrne Seminar. Applications for the Rutgers-Eagleton Washington Internship Award—Undergraduate Students
The Eagleton Institute of Politics is accepting applications for the Rutgers-Eagleton Washington Internship Award. The $6,000 award supports outstanding Rutgers students who are interested in completing an unpaid, non-profit government internship in Washington D.C. during Summer 2023. This opportunity is open to all class years, including first years and graduating seniors, all majors, and all campus locations. Ralph W. Voorhees Fellowship in Public Service—Undergraduate Students
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy has established the Ralph W. Voorhees Fellowship Program in Public Service to honor Mr. Voorhees' commitment to community service. Each year, the school selects undergraduates from any major at Rutgers–New Brunswick who are dedicated to civic engagement. Study Group Registration Now Open—All Students
The Learning Centers invite students to register for a study group in order to have a better understanding of course material and acquire effective learning strategies. Study group leaders review course material with students and integrate study strategies—such as note taking, problem solving, and test preparation—that link course content with cognitive skill development. View the list of classes and register here. Study Group participants earn higher average final course grades than if they had studied alone.

Dining Plan Change and Cancellation Requests—All Students
Dining plan change and cancellation requests for the Spring 2023 semester are now being accepted online. The deadline to reduce or cancel the Spring 2023 meal plan is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Important Graduation Information—Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students who anticipate completing January 2023 degree requirements must apply for graduation by submitting a diploma application online or a hard copy if the deadline has been missed. The deadline is January 15, 2023. Submit diploma application questions to the One Stop Student Services Center. Please note that completion of a diploma application does not imply that graduation requirements have been met.

Financial

Complete FAFSA by January 15 to Maximize Financial Aid Resources—All Students
Students should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to maximize options for financial aid resources including scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study. The priority deadline for continuing students is January 15, 2023. Filing after January 15 is still possible, but students will not be considered for the maximum amount of aid. Please check these links for how to apply, tips for the FAFSA application, and more information on financial aid. Campus-specific resources can also be found here. 

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Rutgers requires full-time and all F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The Health Insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is February 10, 2023.

• WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
• ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

Taxable Tuition Remission—Students Who are Staff or Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Spring 2023 withholding dates.

TA/GA/Fellows Payroll Deduction—Graduate Students

The Rutgers Internship and Co-Op Course (RICC) is a 3 or 6-credit general elective course that students can take concurrently with an internship or co-op experience to earn academic credit. The course is housed in Canvas and is an asynchronous with three virtual synchronous meetings throughout the semester. Rutgers Summer Service Internship (RSSI) Program—Undergraduate Students
The Rutgers Summer Service Internship Program (RSSI) provides select students with an opportunity to earn up to $5,000 while interning for a minimum of 150-hours over 10-12 weeks during the summer at a public service non-profit organization or direct-service government office. Students also participate in a concurrent virtual, asynchronous internship course designed to explore and engage with the topic of public service while building their career readiness and professionalism skills. The program is accepting student applications for the summer 2023 cohort. Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. Students are encouraged to review their personal financial foundation for the next year and coordinate finances to reach their goals, such as setting SMART goals, creating an Emergency Fund, having realistic plans to pay credit card bills, and checking credit scores and histories. Students may visit Scarlet$ense, a new campus-wide comprehensive program on financial literacy at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, for more financial tips and information.

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Students who have failed to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan before the deadline for the Fall 2022 semester should follow these guidelines:

• Failed to Waive? Students are being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance. Students can complete a waiver appeal form before November 30, 2022, at www.universityhealthplans.com. F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students must contact Eirinn Jones at Rutgers Global before the deadline for waiver appeal guidelines at eljones@global.rutgers.edu by November 30, 2022.
   
• Failed to Enroll? Students are now being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cause a delay in accessing insurance cards. Students can visit www.uhcsr.com to create an account and access insurance cards in a few weeks. Please note that students should be proactive and enroll before the deadline each semester to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for medical care—including medication—and then seeking reimbursement.

Get Ready for Flu Season with Flu Vaccination Clinic—All Students
A Flu Vaccination Clinic will be held on Wednesday November 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Yard at Sojourner Truth Apartments, College Avenue Campus. Students should bring their Rutgers student ID and insurance cards to the clinics. In order to save time, consent forms can be completed in advance. Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Students who have failed to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan before the deadline for the Fall 2022 semester should follow these guidelines:

• Failed to Waive? Students are being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance. Students can complete a waiver appeal form before November 30, 2022, at www.universityhealthplans.com. F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students must contact Eirinn Jones at Rutgers Global before the deadline for waiver appeal guidelines at eljones@global.rutgers.edu by November 30, 2022.
   
• Failed to Enroll? Students are now being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cause a delay in accessing insurance cards. Students can visit www.uhcsr.com to create an account and access insurance cards in a few weeks. Information for Federal Government's Student Debt Relief Plan—All Students
The federal government has announced a plan to cancel up to $10,000 in federal student debt for Americans earning less than $125,000 per year ($250,000 for couples), and up to $20,000 for borrowers who received Pell Grants while they were in college. Learn more about the debt relief program here.

GradGuard Tuition Insurance Plans purchased on or after February 18, 2022, now include the Epidemic Coverage Endorsement, which can provide coverage for when an insured student completely withdraws from school for the covered term due to becoming ill with any epidemic or pandemic disease, including COVID-19 and Monkeypox. The Learning Centers offer GRE Prep Workshops for students who are getting ready for graduate school and need to take the GRE exams. These workshops will be held on November 28 (Writing) and November 30 (Quantitative & Verbal). Registration for Winter Term—All Students

Fall 2022 Add/Drop Dates—Undergraduate Students
Thursday, December 15, is the last day to withdraw from the University for Fall 2022. Normal Webreg hours are 6:30 a.m.—midnight, Monday through Friday, and 6:30 a.m.—2 p.m. on Saturdays. Learn more and view the Fall 2022 Undergraduate Calendar here. Important Graduation Information—Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students who anticipate completing January 2023 degree requirements must apply for graduation by submitting a diploma application online or a hard copy if the deadline has been missed. The deadline is January 15, 2023. Submit diploma application questions to the One Stop Student Services Center. Please note that completion of a diploma application does not imply that graduation requirements have been met.

Financial

Scarlet $ense Financial Literacy Module—All Students
Scarlet $ense is a new, campus-wide comprehensive program on financial literacy at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Programming includes student loan borrowing and repayments, budgeting, savings, investing, and debt. Students have access to a free financial literacy website, workshops, freshman and transfer seminars, and webinars on financial literacy topics. To complete a module, please login here.   

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Students who have failed to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan before the deadline for the Fall 2022 semester should follow these guidelines:

• Failed to Waive? Students are being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance. Students can complete a waiver appeal form before November 30, 2022, at www.universityhealthplans.com. F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students must contact Eirinn Jones at Rutgers Global before the deadline for waiver appeal guidelines at eljones@global.rutgers.edu by November 30, 2022.
• Failed to Enroll? Students are now being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cause a delay in accessing insurance cards. Students can visit www.uhcsr.com to create an account and access insurance cards in a few weeks. Please note that students should be proactive and enroll before the deadline each semester to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for medical care—including medication—and then seeking reimbursement.

Winter 2023 Payment Plans—All Students
The Rutgers University Tuition Payment Plan (RUTPP) allows students to pay term bills in monthly payments. The last day to enroll in the payment plan for Winter 2023 is December 5, 2022. Learn more and enroll in payment plans here.

Information for Federal Government's Student Debt Relief Plan—All Students
The federal government has announced a plan to cancel up to $10,000 in federal student debt for Americans earning less than $125,000 per year ($250,000 for couples), and up to $20,000 for borrowers who received Pell Grants while they were in college. Learn more about the debt relief program here.

Direct deposit is the fastest, safest, and most convenient way to receive refunds issued by Rutgers. All students are required to enroll in direct deposit. Please note that direct deposit is currently not available for summer. View instructions for setting up direct deposit here.

Cash Payments—All Students
Due to the health and safety concerns associated with handling cash for students and staff, we strongly encourage using electronic payment methods instead of cash payments. Please review payment options and the Cash Handling Policy for more information.

GradGuard Epidemic Coverage Endorsement—All Students
GradGuard Tuition Insurance Plans purchased on or after February 18, 2022, now include the Epidemic Coverage Endorsement, which can provide coverage for when an insured student completely withdraws from school for the covered term due to becoming ill with any epidemic or pandemic disease, including COVID-19 and Monkeypox. myGuest Authorized User Access for Term Bills, Grades, and More—All Students
Students can authorize a third party or a parent with access to review academic records, view financial aid rewards, or make payments on their behalf. To grant this access, students must log in to their myRutgers Dashboard, and use the "Authorized Access" icon to provide access to the desired authorized party. Additional instructions for the myGuest Dashboard can be found here.

One Stop Student Services Center and Walk-Ins—All Students
The One Stop Student Services Center (One Stop) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick represents an integrated and coordinated cross-functional service in the areas of financial aid, student accounts, and registration.  One Stop acts as a “single point of service” across these areas to promote a progressive, simplified, and consistent student experience and a culture that supports student satisfaction and success. Questions can be submitted using the contact form, by phone at 848-445-4636 (INFO), or by visiting the One Stop at Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor Hall located at 65 Davidson Road on Busch Campus. No appointments are necessary for walk-ins. The center is open Monday–Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students can follow updates from One Stop on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Healthy Minds Survey—All Students
Rutgers University–New Brunswick is conducting a campus-wide survey about student health and well-being. The purpose of this study is to better understand student mental health, sources of support, and other mental and emotional health topics. Get Ready for Flu Season with Flu Vaccination Clinics—All Students
Fall 2022 Flu Vaccination Clinics will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

•    Tuesday, November 8: Trayes Hall at the Douglass Student Center
•    Thursday, November 17: Multipurpose Room of the Busch Student Center
•    Wednesday November 30: The Yard at Sojourner Truth Apartments, College Avenue Campus

Academics

Monday Motivation Workshop—All Students
Start the week right with the Learning Centers by attending a Monday Motivation workshop. During these workshops, students will plan out tasks for the week and learn new study strategies with an Academic Coach. Sessions are offered every Monday from 3-4 p.m. at the Livingston Learning Center, located in the 111L Conference Room of Tillett Hall. Students are welcome to attend multiple sessions and should bring syllabi for their courses. Register for a workshop here.

Take the Diversity Peer Educator Course—Undergraduate Students
Students are invited to register for this spring’s Diversity Peer Educator Course, a 7-week, 1.5 credit course coordinated through the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities and the Department of Residence Life. The course prepares students to navigate challenging and engaging discourse while enhancing leadership skills. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, December 1, 2022. Applications for the Ph.D. Program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources—All Students
The School of Management and Labor Relations is accepting applications for the Ph.D. program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources (IRHR) from Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students of all majors and concentrations. The IRHR Ph.D. program trains students to design, conduct, and publish rigorous research on the world of work and workers in leading scholarly journals, and prepares students for research-oriented careers in academia.
