Scarlet$ense Financial Literacy Workshop: Budgeting, Saving, and Investing—All Students
The Office of Financial Aid will hold a Scarlet$ense financial literacy workshop on Thursday, February 23, at 2 p.m. at the Dr. Samuel DeWitt Proctor Hall on the Busch Campus. The workshop will focus on the topics of budgeting, saving, and investing. Learn more and register here.

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students Students who have failed to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan before the deadline should follow these guidelines: 

  • Failed to Waive? Students are being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance. Students can complete a waiver appeal form before April 30, 2023, at www.universityhealthplans.com. F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students must contact Eirinn Jones at Rutgers Global before the deadline for waiver appeal guidelines by April 30, 2023. A Rutgers ID number must be included for identification. 
     
  • Failed to Enroll? Students are now being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cause a delay in accessing insurance cards. Students can visit www.uhcsr.com to create an account and access insurance cards in a few weeks. Please note that students should be proactive and enroll before the deadline each semester to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for medical care—including medication—and then seeking reimbursement. 

Taxable Tuition Remission—Students Who are Staff or Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Spring 2023 withholding dates.

1098-T Forms—All Students

TA/GA/Fellows Payroll Deduction—Graduate Students
TAs, GAs, and Graduate Fellows may enroll in payroll deduction to make payments for charges not covered by tuition remission, such as housing, dining, or student fees. Please complete the online form to enroll in payroll deduction and view the Spring 2023 payroll deduction schedule here. The deadline to enroll in the 7-payment plan for Spring 2023 payroll deduction is noon on February 23, 2023.

Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. The plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events that force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason, including mental health conditions and illness from epidemic and pandemic diseases. Students can authorize a third party or a parent with access to review academic records, view financial aid rewards, or make payments on their behalf. To grant this access, students must log in to their myRutgers Dashboard, and use the "Authorized Access" icon to provide access to the desired authorized party. Additional instructions for the myGuest Dashboard can be found here.

One Stop Student Services Center and Walk-Ins—All Students

The 2023 Rutgers–New Brunswick and RBHS Commencement ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at SHI Stadium. Regalia is now on sale online through Barnes & Noble at Rutgers. Information regarding regalia sales, parking registration, shout out filming, day-of information, and more is available on the website. Music Tutoring—All Students
The Learning Centers are now offering music tutoring for music courses. Tutors are available for the following courses: Aural Skills (I – IV), Classroom Piano (I – IV), Fundamentals of Music, Music History (I – II), and Music Theory (I – IV). Applications for the Leadership Scholars Certificate Program—Undergraduate Students
The Institute for Women's Leadership is accepting applications for the Leadership Scholars Certificate Program. This two-year and 19-credit certificate program explores women’s leadership for social change, with benefits such as a career-building internship, funding for self-designed social action projects, and building community with other young women leaders. Ralph W. Voorhees Fellowship in Public Service—Undergraduate Students The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy has established the Ralph W. Voorhees Fellowship Program in Public Service to honor Mr. Voorhees' commitment to community service. Each year, the school selects undergraduates from any major at Rutgers–New Brunswick who are dedicated to civic engagement. Applications for the 2024 Graduate Fellowship Program in Government and Politics—Graduate Students Graduate students may apply for the 2024 Graduate Fellowship Program in Government and Politics offered by the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Fellows gain experience and knowledge of how American politics, government, policy, and advocacy impacts their fields of study and are a part of an interdisciplinary cohort from across Rutgers. Monday Motivation Workshops—All Students
The Rutgers Learning Centers is offering Monday Motivation Workshops to help students plan weekly tasks, boost motivation, focus, and provide new study strategies. Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Rutgers requires full-time and all F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The Health Insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is February 10, 2023.

  • WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
  • ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

Academic Success Workshops—All Students
The Learning Centers offer academic success workshops to help students start off the semester strong. Students who attend these sessions learn techniques to improve focus, concentration, memory, emotional well-being, and effective strategies to take control of their learning. All workshops will be held on Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m. in room 1150B of the College Avenue Learning Center located in the Rutgers Academic Building, West. Dining Plan Change and Cancellation Requests—All Students
Dining plan change and cancellation requests for the Spring 2023 semester are now being accepted online. The deadline to reduce or cancel the Spring 2023 meal plan is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Financial

First Day Digital Book Fees and Course Fees—Undergraduate Students
Now that the add/drop period is over for undergraduate students, please review term bills to see if any courses that were added had digital book or course fees. While course fees are mandatory, digital book fees (also known as First Day) are optional. Find out more about digital book fees and how to opt out of them at here. The deadline to waive the digital book charge is January 31, 2023. 

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Rutgers requires full-time and all F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The Health Insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is February 10, 2023.

  • WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
  • ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

Taxable Tuition Remission—Students Who are Staff or Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Spring 2023 withholding dates.

Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. The plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events that force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason, including mental health conditions and illness from epidemic and pandemic diseases. The Learning Centers invite students to register for a study group in order to have a better understanding of course material and acquire effective learning strategies. Intern For a Day—Undergraduate Students
The Intern for a Day program offers students an immersive experience connecting classroom learning with exposure to different employers and careers and providing insight into possible future job settings. Dining plan change and cancellation requests for the Spring 2023 semester are now being accepted online. The deadline to reduce or cancel the Spring 2023 meal plan is Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Financial

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students
Rutgers requires full-time and all F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The Health Insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is February 10, 2023.

  • WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
  • ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

The Rutgers Learning Centers offer academic support services, both in-person and online, until the end of the final exam period. Financial Planning for the New Year with Scarlet$ense—All Students
Students are encouraged to review their personal financial foundation for the next year and coordinate finances to reach their goals, such as setting SMART goals, creating an Emergency Fund, having realistic plans to pay credit card bills, and checking credit scores and histories. Students may visit Scarlet$ense, a new campus-wide comprehensive program on financial literacy at Rutgers University–New Brunswick, for more financial tips and information.

Student Health Insurance Information—All Students Students who have failed to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan before the deadline for the Fall 2022 semester should follow these guidelines:

  • Failed to Waive? Students are being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and will be responsible for the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance. Students can complete a waiver appeal form before November 30, 2022, at www.universityhealthplans.com. F & J Rutgers visa-sponsored students must contact Eirinn Jones at Rutgers Global before the deadline for waiver appeal guidelines at eljones@global.rutgers.edu by November 30, 2022.
     
  • Failed to Enroll? Students are now being enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), which will cause a delay in accessing insurance cards. Students can visit www.uhcsr.com to create an account and access insurance cards in a few weeks. Please note that students should be proactive and enroll before the deadline each semester to avoid having to pay out-of-pocket expenses for medical care—including medication—and then seeking reimbursement.

Get Ready for Flu Season with Flu Vaccination Clinic—All Students
A Flu Vaccination Clinic will be held on Wednesday November 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Yard at Sojourner Truth Apartments, College Avenue Campus. Students should bring their Rutgers student ID and insurance cards to the clinics. In order to save time, consent forms can be completed in advance. Engagement Hub Is Here—Undergraduate Students
The Engagement Hub is a new addition offered by the Student Activities Center and will serve as a resource for students looking to get involved on campus. The Engagement Hub is the home for the Engagement Ambassadors who are knowledgeable undergraduate student consultants who serve as a resource for their fellow Scarlet Knights. Academics

Learning Centers Open until Midnight on November 30—All Students
The Learning Centers will be open from 8 p.m. until midnight on Wednesday, November 30, to help students prepare for final exams or final projects. Students will have the opportunity to take advantage of extended hours for focused study, drop-in tutoring, academic coaching, and writing tutoring at both the Busch Learning Center and the College Avenue Learning Center. Take the Diversity Peer Educator Course—Undergraduate Students
Students are invited to register for this spring’s Diversity Peer Educator Course, a 7-week, 1.5 credit course coordinated through the Center for Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities and the Department of Residence Life. The course prepares students to navigate challenging and engaging discourse while enhancing leadership skills. The deadline to sign up is Thursday, December 1, 2022. Applications for the Ph.D. Program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources—All Students
The School of Management and Labor Relations is accepting applications for the Ph.D. program in Industrial Relations and Human Resources (IRHR) from Rutgers undergraduate and graduate students of all majors and concentrations. The IRHR Ph.D. program trains students to design, conduct, and publish rigorous research on the world of work and workers in leading scholarly journals, and prepares students for research-oriented careers in academia. Learn more about the program here.

Applications for the Bloustein Master’s Programs in Public Affairs & Politics, Public Informatics, and Health Administration—All Students
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is accepting applications for their master’s programs in Public Informatics, Health Administration, and Public Affairs & Politics. The GRE is waived for Fall 2023 applications and scholarships are available. The deadline to apply is July 1, 2023, and no work experience is necessary. Learn more here.

Applications for the Master’s Program in Political Science–Concentration in the United Nations and Global Policy Studies and Virtual Inforamation Sessions—Undergraduate Students The Department of Political Science at the School of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications from high-achieving undergraduate students for the Accelerated Master’s Program in Political Science–United Nations and Global Policy Studies (UNMA) on a rolling basis. This 36-credit program gives students an opportunity to reduce graduate program costs and obtain an M.A. degree in a shorter time. 15+ to Finish Campaign—All Students
Rutgers–New Brunswick is kicking off 15+ to Finish, a campaign that encourages students to enroll in and successfully complete 15 or more credits each semester and connects them with the resources to help stay on track to graduation. Completing 15+ credits per semester can help students pursue a path to graduating in four years with less debt. Students can utilize campus resources on Success.rutgers.edu, a comprehensive webpage of all the services, tools, and resources to help students stay on track to graduation and thrive at Rutgers and beyond.

The Office of Career Exploration and Success invites students who want to learn how to network or enhance their job search prospects to the Mastering the Art of Networking: A Career Conference and Etiquette Dinner. This immersive experience empowers students to overcome the initial fears of networking, master the art of working a room, feel confident with small talk, and develop a professional online brand.
