Important Information Regarding COVID-19
The Universitywide COVID-19 Information Page is your official source of information about the university’s response to COVID-19. This page has resources for students and parents along with announcements pertaining to COVID-19, FAQs, and the operating statuses of services, facilities, and offices at Rutgers. You are encouraged to check this site frequently.
Important Graduation Information—Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students who anticipate completing May 2021 degree requirements must apply for graduation by submitting a diploma application online, or a hard copy if the deadline has been missed. The May 2021 application deadline is May 15. Please note that completion of a diploma application does not imply that graduation requirements have been met. Any questions concerning a diploma application can be submitted using this contact form.
Financial Holds—All Students
Financial holds have been placed on accounts which have unpaid balances. These holds will prevent students from registering for Fall 2021 semester classes. Students who are enrolled in tuition payment plans should make sure that the last payment on a plan will satisfy any outstanding balance. Financial aid recipients should check online to make sure all financial aid has been credited. View the balance of a student account here.
Annual (2021–2022) Payment Plans No Longer Available—All Students
Annual tuition payment plans are no longer available. Students who have already signed up for an annual plan will continue with the plan; however, there will be no new enrollments. Visit paymentplans.rutgers.edu for more information on other available plans.
Student Refunds—International Students
International students receiving a refund are eligible to receive their funds either through Flywire, Direct Deposit, or Online Term Bill Credit Transfer. Please complete this form immediately in order to specify which refund method is preferred.
Chosen/Preferred Name—All Students
Since September 2014, Rutgers University has recognized that members of the university community use names other than their legal names. In an effort to continue to promote the comfort and safety of students who wish to be identified by a name other than their legal name, the university has updated the preferred name procedure. Students may now submit their chosen/preferred name directly via ScarletHub. Learn more about this process here.
The Office of Financial Aid Partners with Inceptia—All Students
The Office of Financial Aid is pleased to announce a partnership with Inceptia to simplify the federal verification process. Rutgers University is required to verify the data supplied on the FAFSA in cases where the application is selected for verification. Through Inceptia, students and parents are able to submit requested documents through a secure upload process. If a FAFSA is selected, the student will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org or a postcard with a website link to start the verification process. Students who receive a notice should avoid delays by beginning the process immediately. Learn more about this process here.
Pass/No Credit Option for Spring 2021—Undergraduate Students
The Pass/No Credit option remains available to undergraduate students for courses taken during the Spring 2021 semester. Students should evaluate this option carefully and in consultation with academic advisors at their school to understand the full ramifications of such a decision for their particular academic major, career path, and financial aid standing. COVID-19 Testing Information & Contact Tracing—All Students
All students living in campus housing, living off-campus in the New Brunswick/Piscataway area, and students in groups required to receive testing can access testing through Rutgers Student Health. Details about testing can be found here.
- Off-campus students must register their local address here. Local addresses are needed in order for public health officials to properly track and respond to the pandemic.
- There is no cost for testing through Rutgers Student Health.
- Students who experience symptoms, had contact with someone who tested positive, are worried, or are unsure about getting tested, should call Rutgers Student Health at 848-932-7402. Student Health will schedule a same-day appointment time to speak with a clinician, answer questions, and provide a test that day.
- Students who are contacted by a Contact Tracer are highly encouraged to speak with them. Contact Tracers provide valuable information and resources to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Learning Centers' Services Will Be Online for Summer Session 2021—All Students
This summer, the Learning Centers will be offering services remotely by using Penji to connect with students. The physical centers will not re-open until the fall, but tutoring, academic coaching, study groups, and writing coaching will still be offered online through the Penji platform for all Summer 2021 sessions. The online services page allows students to access these services and students can also view the introductory video for instructions on how to set up an account. Penji can also be downloaded on iOS or Android to use on mobile phones, and the web version is also available. Staff will be available to support students and their academic success over the summer. Students may call 848-932-0561 or send an email using the contact form for any questions.
Applications for the Faith and Justice Fellowship—Undergraduate Students
The Faith and Justice Undergraduate Fellowship is a year-long opportunity for students to develop leadership skills through the lens of faith and social justice. Applications for the Fall 2021 fellowship are open through May 19, 2021. Selected fellows will receive a stipend. Learn more and apply here.

The School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR) invites undergraduates of all majors to apply for the Master of Labor and Employment Relations (MLER) program. The GRE is waived. Learn about Diversity and Inclusion; Workplace Laws; Globalization; Labor and Management; Conflict Resolution; and many complex workplace topics from the employee and employer perspective. New SAS Signature Course for Fall 2021—Undergraduate Students
The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is offering the new signature course 01:450:280 “Understanding COVID-19: Interdisciplinary Perspectives”. This course explores the science of the pandemic along with its economic, political, social, and cultural causes and impacts. The School of Communication and Information (SC&I) is hosting two online information sessions for the new Master of Health Communication and Information (MHCI) program. Information sessions are on May 12 at 6:30 p.m., and on June 9 at 6:30 p.m. Dr. Richard Dool, MHCI Program Director, will discuss program details, the application and admissions process, and careers in the health and communication field. The Department of Political Science at the School of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications from high-achieving undergraduate students for the Accelerated Master’s Program in Political Science–United Nations and Global Policy Studies (UNMA) on a rolling basis. Student Center Building Operations Managers for the 2021–2022 Academic Year—Undergraduate Students
Student Centers and Activities is recruiting Student Centers Building Operations Managers. Building Operations Managers serve as the primary liaison between the student center and university offices. Students gain valuable leadership skills and are responsible for student center operations, including staff, facility, and event management. Reserve Study Space at the Student Centers & Weekend Hours—All Students
The student centers will be adding special weekend hours May 8 and May 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The College Avenue Student Center is offering the Multipurpose Room as additional study space, reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. The Pass/No Credit option remains available to undergraduate students for courses taken during the Spring 2021 semester. Prepare for Final Exams with Learning Centers' Online Academic Success Services—All Students
The Learning Centers are offering multiple academic services to help students prepare for final exams successfully. Tutoring is done through a cooperative group setting online, facilitated by a peer tutor through Zoom. Check the online tutoring schedule to see if a course is listed. One-on-one Academic Coaching appointments, also held online, help students improve academic and self-management skills. Writing Coaching also offers one-on-one assistance to help students develop a plan for the next step of their writing project. Visit the Online Services page to access these support services, and review the 5 Steps to Conquering Finals. The Virtual Help Desk is available for questions from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Graduate Student Employment Opportunities with Tuition Remission—Graduate Students
Residence Life is recruiting for multiple graduate internship opportunities. Interns will gain valuable leadership skills with benefits that include a $7,000 stipend, tuition remission, a 75-block meal plan per semester, and a furnished on-campus apartment. Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American Graduation and Leadership Awards—All Students
Students are invited to register for the Asian Pacific Islander and Desi American Graduation and Leadership Awards (APIDA GALA) held on May 7 at 6 p.m. This event celebrates the outstanding achievements, accomplishments, and contributions of individual student leaders, organizations, and graduating seniors of the APIDA community at Rutgers University–New Brunswick. Pa’lante: Student Leader Recognition Ceremony—All Students
The Center for Latino Arts and Culture invites students to register for the Pa’lante: Student Leader Recognition Ceremony on May 13 at 5 p.m. to honor the persistence, achievement, and service of graduating Latinx-identified and other affiliated undergraduate and graduate students. #Rutgersworks Free Tuition Challenge—All Students
The Office of Career Exploration and Success invites students to participate in the #Rutgersworks Free Tuition Challenge. Students who complete a number of virtual career-related activities will receive stamps, and once 10 stamps have been accrued, they will be entered into the grand prize raffle for free tuition. To enter, please visit the challenge's webpage and create a gameboard with a NETID and password and begin earning stamps today. The deadline is April 30, 2021. Learn more about the challenge here.
Apply to be a Writing Coach for the Learning Centers—All Students
The Learning Centers are now hiring undergraduate and graduate students as Writing Coaches. Coaches will have the opportunity to work individually with Rutgers students and assist in various forms of writing, including course assignments, personal statements, and research writing. Coaches may also conduct group workshops (Basic Composition and Expository Writing courses are excluded). The application deadline is May 1, 2021. Learn more and apply here.
Learn How to Study and Prepare for Finals—All Students
The Learning Centers are offering group workshops facilitated by academic coaches to help students prepare for final exams. All finals prep workshops will be held via Canvas Zoom during their scheduled times. Register for a finals prep workshop here. Students may also sign up for 1-on-1 academic coaching to receive individualized coaching for finals preparation and other study strategies.

All university community members are invited to the Virtual Open Hearing on the University’s Tuition, Fees, and Housing and Dining Charges for 2021–2022 on Wednesday, April 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. Comments made at the hearing help inform university administration while developing tuition and fees. 2021 University Commencement Shout Out Submissions—All Students
Rutgers–New Brunswick graduates are invited to submit shout out videos for virtual University Commencement. The deadline to submit shout out videos has been extended to Sunday, April 25. Students who submit all 6 of the shots will be put into a drawing to win a $100 Amazon gift card. The videos will be featured during the opening and closing of University Commencement. The Learning Centers are now hiring undergraduate and graduate students as Writing Coaches. Coaches will have the opportunity to work individually with Rutgers students and assist in various forms of writing, including course assignments, personal statements, and research writing. Pre-registration for the Fall 2021 semester begins on Monday, April 19, at 9 a.m. for New Brunswick undergraduate students with 90+ credits and continues through Tuesday, April 27. Financial Holds—All Students
Financial holds have been placed on accounts which have unpaid balances. These holds will prevent students from registering for Fall 2021 semester classes. The Office of Financial Aid Partners with Inceptia—All Students
The Office of Financial Aid is pleased to announce a partnership with Inceptia to simplify the federal verification process. Rutgers University is required to verify the data supplied on the FAFSA in cases where the application is selected for verification. Through Inceptia, students and parents are able to submit requested documents through a secure upload process. If a FAFSA is selected, the student will receive an email from VGCS@inceptia.org or a postcard with a website link to start the verification process. Applications for the RU Voting internship, in conjunction with the Eagleton Institute of Politic's Center for Youth Political Participation, are now open. RU Voting interns will lead voter registration and mobilization efforts on the Rutgers University–New Brunswick campus and participate in state and national efforts. Experience in voter engagement efforts is a plus but not required. Interns must have strong written and public speaking skills, as well as leadership skills. Since September 2014, Rutgers University has recognized that members of the university community use names other than their legal names. In an effort to continue to promote the comfort and safety of students who wish to be identified by a name other than their legal name, the university has updated the preferred name procedure. Applications are now available for the Class of 2022 Eagleton Graduate Fellowship Program in Politics and Government and is open to Rutgers graduate students. Stipends and tuition remission are available. Participants will build knowledge, skills, and networks to engage in American politics, government, and local communities. Students may complete the program while pursuing a degree without interruption, and an interdisciplinary cohort and curriculum connects the fellowship experience to a chosen field of study. Applications for the Rutgers Road to Wall Street Program at the Rutgers Business School open on March 26. Rising sophomores are invited to apply by April 9, 2021. A virtual information session for interested freshmen women (class of 2024) will be held on March 24 at 8 p.m. Information sessions offer an opportunity to hear about the program and learn more about the professional opportunities it provides and about the application process. The Department of Political Science at the School of Arts and Sciences is accepting applications from high-achieving undergraduate students for the Accelerated Master’s Program in Political Science–United Nations and Global Policy Studies (UNMA) on a rolling basis. This 36-credit program gives students an opportunity to reduce graduate program costs and obtain an M.A. degree in a shorter time period. Registration for Summer Session 2021 is ongoing. Choose from over 2,500 courses in a wide range of subjects. Make progress toward graduation, improve your GPA, or fulfill a prerequisite this summer. Learn more about Summer Session here.
Pass/No Credit Option for Spring 2021—Undergraduate Students
The Pass/No Credit option remains available to undergraduate students for courses taken during the Spring 2021 semester. Students should evaluate this option carefully and in consultation with academic advisors at their school to understand the full ramifications of such a decision for their particular academic major, career path, and financial aid standing. COVID-19 Testing Information & Contact Tracing—All Students
All students living in campus housing, living off-campus in the New Brunswick/Piscataway area, and students in groups required to receive testing can access testing through Rutgers Student Health. Details about testing can be found here.
- Off-campus students must register their local address here. Local addresses are needed in order for public health officials to properly track and respond to the pandemic.
- There is no cost for testing through Rutgers Student Health.
- Students who experience symptoms, had contact with someone who tested positive, are worried, or are unsure about getting tested, should call Rutgers Student Health at 848-932-7402. Student Health will schedule a same-day appointment time to speak with a clinician, answer questions, and provide a test that day.
- Students who are contacted by a Contact Tracer are highly encouraged to speak with them. Contact Tracers provide valuable information and resources to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
Applications for the Class of 1988 Scholarship—Juniors & Seniors
Students are encouraged to apply for the Class of 1988 Scholarship, managed by Student Centers and Activities. This scholarship is for full-time juniors and seniors who demonstrate a commitment to community service. Applicants must have a GPA of 2.75 or above. Awards range from $500–$1,000, and the deadline for applications is March 21, 2021. Learn more about the scholarship here.
Earn Badges by Completing Online Learning Modules—All Students
The Learning Centers have created self-paced learning modules that give students the opportunity to earn badges that can be shared on LinkedIn and other platforms. Modules include How to Succeed in Online Courses and Time Management Strategies. Online instructional videos are also available and can be accessed on their YouTube channel. Register for a TA Project Workshop—Graduate Students
Graduate students are invited to register for workshops offered by the TA Project at the School of Graduate Studies. These workshops cover a wide range of topics to assist TAs with their continued professional development. These sessions, designed for current and future graduate student TAs, are free. 1098Ts—All Students
Students received an email notification on January 29, 2021, with instructions for viewing and printing their 2020 1098T tax forms for Educational Tax Credits. Students with scholarships and grant aid greater than their qualified tuition and fee charges are not eligible to claim a tax deduction and will not see a 1098T form. An important note for this year's form is that any CARES funding received through the term bill will not be included on the form. Learn more about the 1098T form here.
Annual (2021–2022), Summer & Fall 2021 Rutgers Tuition Payment Plans—All Students
Annual, Summer, and Fall tuition payment plans are now available. Students looking to sign up for a payment plan need to log into the current semester term bill to sign up until the Summer and Fall term bills are released. Visit paymentplans.rutgers.edu for more information.

Black Mentoring Circle—All Students
The Paul Robeson Cultural Center invites the Rutgers community to participate in monthly Black Mentoring Circle sessions. With a new topic each month, the Circle provides a virtual space where students can participate in guided educational discourse relevant to the Black student experience. The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy has established the Ralph W. Voorhees Fellowship Program in Public Service to honor Mr. Voorhees' commitment to community service. Each year, the school selects undergraduates from any major at Rutgers–New Brunswick who are dedicated to civic engagement. Fellows receive $5,000 & participate in a credit-bearing partnership with community organizations. Applications are due on March 5, 2021.
