Spring 2024 Pre-Registration—Undergraduate Students
Pre-registration for the Spring 2024 term begins on Monday, November 6, at 9 a.m. for New Brunswick graduate students and undergraduate students with 105+ degree credits and continues through Thursday, November 16. Registration for Winter Session Is Ongoing—All Students
Registration for the Winter 2024 term is in progress. Earn credits towards a degree during winter break, and choose from 150 courses in a wide range of subjects. Please note that students must have an established GPA of 2.0 or higher to register. Rutgers first-year and transfer students who enrolled in the fall are not eligible to register. Important Graduation Information—Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students who anticipate completing January 2024 degree requirements must apply for graduation by submitting a diploma application online or a hard copy if the deadline has been missed. The January deadline is January 15, 2024. Any questions concerning a diploma application can be submitted to the Undergraduate Registrar’s Office via this webform. Please note that completion of a diploma application does not imply that graduation requirements have been met.

2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Process—All Students
The 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process is being updated as a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act. Please visit the FAFSA Simplification page to learn more. The FAFSA for the 2024–2025 academic year will be available in December, and the Rutgers priority filing deadline is February 15, 2024, for incoming, continuing, and transfer students.

Waiver Appeal and Enrollment Guidelines in the Student Health Insurance Plan—All Students
Mandatory action required: Rutgers requires full time and F&J Rutgers visa sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline.

  • Waiver: If you completed the waiver before the deadline and the premium was removed from the term bill, NO further action is required. University Health Plans (Broker) does not have access to the term bill, and therefore cannot confirm if the premium was removed. Students/parents/families can view the term bill online to confirm. 

  • Waiver Appeal: If a waiver was not submitted before September 23, 2023, you may complete a waiver appeal at www.universityhealthplans.com. Students who failed to submit a waiver before the deadline are now being added to the SHIP and are responsible for the premium on the term bill even though they may have comparable health insurance. Once a waiver appeal is submitted, the premium will be automatically removed from the term bill within (four) 4 business days. The waiver appeal deadline is November 30, 2023. Appeals for Fall 2023 will not be accepted after this date. 

  • Enrollment: If an enrollment form was not submitted before the deadline, enrollment in the SHIP is now being processed and the insurance card will be available in a few days. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling, and the form should be completed each semester before the deadline. Please visit www.universityhealthplans.com to view the summary of benefits and how to get the insurance card. 

Enroll in Direct Deposit for Faster Refunds—All Students
Direct deposit is the fastest, safest, and most convenient way to receive refunds issued by Rutgers. View instructions for setting up direct deposit here. International students who are eligible for a refund can enroll in direct deposit using a U.S. bank account. Please note that direct deposit is currently not available for summer or winter refunds.

Winter 2024 & Spring 2024 Tuition Payment Plans—All Students
Rutgers has partnered with Nelnet Campus Commerce to allow students to pay tuition and fees over time in an interest-free plan that automatically deducts the amount from bank accounts via e-check payments, credit cards, or debit cards. Enrollment is open for the Winter 2024 payment plan and the 6-payment plan for Spring 2024. View more information regarding payment plans here.

Staff/Faculty Taxable Remission—Graduate Students Who Are Staff/Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Fall 2023 withholding dates.

Cash Payments—All Students
Due to the health and safety concerns associated with handling cash for students and staff, it is strongly encouraged that students use electronic payment methods instead of cash payments for paying term bills. Please review payment options and the Cash Handling Policy for more information.

myGuest Authorized User Access for Term Bills, Grades, and More—All Students
Students can authorize a third party or a parent with access to review academic records, view financial aid rewards, or make payments on their behalf. To grant this access, students must log in to their myRutgers Dashboard, and use the "Authorized Access" icon to provide access to the desired authorized party. Additional instructions for the myGuest Dashboard can be found here.

The One Stop Student Services Center (One Stop) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick represents an integrated and coordinated cross-functional service in the areas of financial aid, student accounts, and registration. Register to Vote or Update Voter Registration for the 2023 Election—All Students
Students seeking to vote in New Jersey should register to vote or update voter registration by October 17, 2023, to be able to vote in the election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Applications are being accepted for the Undergraduate Associates Program at the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Associates build knowledge, skills, and networks for political, government, and community engagement. 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Process—All Students
The 2024–2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) process is being updated as a result of the FAFSA Simplification Act. Please visit the FAFSA Simplification page to learn more. The FAFSA for the 2024–2025 academic year will be available in December, and the Rutgers priority filing deadline is February 15, 2024, for incoming, continuing, and transfer students.

Waiver Appeal and Enrollment Guidelines in the Student Health Insurance Plan—All Students

Mandatory action required: Rutgers requires full time and F&J Rutgers visa sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline.

  • Waiver: If you completed the waiver before the deadline and the premium was removed from the term bill, NO further action is required. University Health Plans (Broker) does not have access to the term bill, and therefore cannot confirm if the premium was removed. Students/parents/families can view the term bill online to confirm. 

  • Waiver Appeal: If a waiver was not submitted before September 23, 2023, you may complete a waiver appeal at www.universityhealthplans.com. Students who failed to submit a waiver before the deadline are now being added to the SHIP and are responsible for the premium on the term bill even though they may have comparable health insurance. Once a waiver appeal is submitted, the premium will be automatically removed from the term bill within (four) 4 business days. The waiver appeal deadline is November 30, 2023. Appeals for Fall 2023 will not be accepted after this date. 

  • Enrollment: If an enrollment form was not submitted before the deadline, enrollment in the SHIP is now being processed and the insurance card will be available in a few days. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling, and the form should be completed each semester before the deadline. Please visit www.universityhealthplans.com to view the summary of benefits and how to get the insurance card. 

Enroll in Direct Deposit for Faster Refunds—All Students
Direct deposit is the fastest, safest, and most convenient way to receive refunds issued by Rutgers. View instructions for setting up direct deposit here. International students who are eligible for a refund can enroll in direct deposit using a U.S. bank account. Please note that direct deposit is currently not available for summer or winter refunds.

TA/GA/Graduate Fellow Tuition Remission Payroll Deduction—TAs, GAs, and Graduate Fellows
TAs, GAs, and Graduate Fellows may enroll in payroll deduction to make payments for charges not covered by tuition remission, such as housing, dining, or student fees. Please complete the online form to enroll in payroll deduction. The deadline to enroll in the 7-payment deduction plan is October 19, 2023, at 12 p.m.

Staff/Faculty Taxable Remission—Graduate Students Who Are Staff/Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Please refer to the 2023 Tax Withholding Schedule for Fall 2023 withholding dates.

Cash Payments—All Students
Due to the health and safety concerns associated with handling cash for students and staff, it is strongly encouraged that students use electronic payment methods instead of cash payments for paying term bills. Please review payment options and the Cash Handling Policy for more information.

Staff/Faculty Taxable Remission—Graduate Students Who Are Staff/Faculty
Please be aware that the full value of staff/faculty graduate tuition remission is subject to federal and New Jersey state tax withholding. In addition, under federal regulations, any graduate tuition remission benefit over $5,250 per calendar year is also considered taxable. Waive/Enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for Fall 2023—All Students
Rutgers University requires full-time and all F&J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The health insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is September 22, 2023.

  • WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
  • ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

Direct deposit is the fastest, safest, and most convenient way to receive refunds issued by Rutgers. View instructions for setting up direct deposit here. International students who are eligible for a refund can enroll in direct deposit using a U.S. bank account. Please note that direct deposit is currently not available for summer or winter refunds.

Waive/Enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for Fall 2023—All Students
Rutgers University requires full-time and all F&J Rutgers visa-sponsored students to waive or enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) each semester before the deadline. The health insurance premium is automatically added to the term bill each semester. The SHIP is optional for part-time students and the premium is not added to the term bill. The deadline to waive or enroll is September 22, 2023.

  • WAIVING? Students who have comparable health insurance may complete the waiver to get the premium removed from their term bills. Students who have failed to waive before the deadline will have enrollment in the SHIP processed and will then be responsible for paying the premium on the term bill even if they have other health insurance.
  • ENROLLING? Students who do not have health insurance should complete the enrollment form. Paying the premium on the term bill is not enrolling. Students should complete the enrollment form each semester to finalize the process.

GradGuard Tuition Insurance—All Students
Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. The plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events that force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason, including mental health conditions, illness, and injury. Students can now enroll in GradGuard Tuition Insurance plans in Nelnet QuickPay. Students can authorize a third party or a parent with access to review academic records, view financial aid rewards, or make payments on their behalf. To grant this access, students must log in to their myRutgers Dashboard, and use the "Authorized Access" icon to provide access to the desired authorized party. Additional instructions for the myGuest Dashboard can be found here.

One Stop Student Services Center and Walk-Ins—All Students
The One Stop Student Services Center (One Stop) at Rutgers University–New Brunswick represents an integrated and coordinated cross-functional service in the areas of financial aid, student accounts, and registration. One Stop acts as a “single point of service” across these areas to promote a progressive, simplified, and consistent student experience and a culture that supports student satisfaction and success. Questions can be submitted using the contact form, by phone at 848-445-4636 (INFO), or by visiting the One Stop at Dr. Samuel Dewitt Proctor Hall located at 65 Davidson Road on Busch Campus. No appointments are necessary for walk-ins. Rutgers–New Brunswick Campus Buses Website and New PassioGO App—All Students
Students can access a full range of bus information on the Parking and Transportation Services website. Route maps, schedules, and helpful videos are all available to assist in navigating the Rutgers University–New Brunswick Campus Bus System. Students can also view real-time bus arrival information by using the PassioGO App on phones or a computer browser. Please note that the Transloc App will no longer be servicing Rutgers bus routes.

Register to Vote or Update Voter Registration for the 2023 Election—All Students
Students seeking to vote in New Jersey should register to vote or update voter registration by October 17, 2023, to be able to vote in the election on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Out-of-state students are also eligible to register in New Jersey but should be sure to check their state's election deadlines and requirements. Learn more about voting here.

Register Local Addresses—All Students Students who are renting in the local community must register local addresses and emergency contact information with Off-Campus Living & Community Initiatives in order to be kept updated on municipal information, programming, emergency alerts, and other helpful information related to living off-campus.

Learning Centers and Services are Now Open—All Students
The Learning Centers help students reach their full academic potential by offering tutoring, academic coaching, writing tutoring, and study groups. Students can build connections with a community of learners, either in-person or online, while enhancing academic performance. Students are encouraged to stop by the College Avenue Learning Center and Livingston Learning Center for Welcome Week: Open House, from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Wednesday, August 30.
 
Bloustein School's Undergraduate Prospective Student Open House—Undergraduate Students
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy hosts an Undergraduate Prospective Student Open House on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This opportunity is for prospective students to learn about the school, academic programs, and admissions criteria, as well as a chance to meet and hear from faculty and current students. Applications for the Bloustein School's Mary Ann and Steven J. Allard Fellowship Program—Undergraduate Students
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and the Allard Family have established a fellowship for outstanding, declared, and non-traditional public health students who have demonstrated a personal commitment or outstanding academic potential in their public health studies. For 2023–2024, two eligible undergraduate students with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA will be selected as fellows to receive $2,000 each. The deadline for applications is Friday, October 20, 2023. Bloustein School Offers New Minor in Disability Studies—Undergraduate Students
The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is offering Disability Studies as a new minor. Disability Studies is an interdisciplinary and interdepartmental minor that examines the meaning, nature, and consequences of disability, as a social, cultural, and political construct. It provides students the opportunity to challenge normative ableist paradigms that reinforce rigid ideas about the body and personhood for people with disabilities. Rutgers Career & Internship Mega Fair The Career & Internship Mega Fair is held from September 19 to September 22. Financial Holds—All Students
Financial holds have been placed on accounts that have unpaid balances. These holds will prevent students from registering for Fall 2023 semester classes. Students who are enrolled in tuition payment plans should make sure their accounts are current and satisfy the remaining balance. Financial aid recipients should review aid packages and check required documents on the Financial Aid webpage to make sure all documents have been submitted. Set Up Direct Deposit to Receive Refunds Faster—All Students
Direct deposit is the fastest, safest, and most convenient way to receive refunds issued by Rutgers. All students are required to enroll in direct deposit. Please note that direct deposit is currently not available for summer or winter refunds. View instructions for setting up direct deposit here.

GradGuard Epidemic Coverage Endorsement—All Students
Rutgers University has partnered with GradGuard to make the Tuition Protection Insurance Plan available to students and families. The plan helps students and their families overcome the financial losses that may result from events that force students to withdraw from the semester due to a covered medical reason, including mental health conditions and illness from epidemic and pandemic diseases. Health

Changes to COVID-19 Policy—All Students
Effective May 16, 2023, all students who have not been granted a medical or religious exemption by the university continue to be required to have completed a primary series of vaccinations and to upload proof of vaccination to the vaccine portals. Booster doses will no longer be required unless an individual falls within the definition of a “Covered Individual” set forth in University Policy 100.3.1.

COVID-19 Testing for Non-vaccinated Students—All Students
Effective May 16, 2023, students with medical or religious exemptions from the university’s COVID-19 vaccination requirements will no longer be required to regularly test unless they fall within the definition of “Covered Individual” set forth in University Policy 100.3.1. Consistent with Governor Murphy’s Executive Orders 283, 290, and 294, only those individuals who have been granted medical or religious exemptions from the COVID-19 vaccination requirements and who fall within the definition of “Covered Individual” set forth in University Policy 100.3.1 must continue to test once per week using self-administered rapid tests and upload their results to the vaccine portal while such executive orders remain in effect.

General

Project Move Out Registration—All Students
Rutgers University and the City of New Brunswick are partnering in Project Move Out to recover discarded furniture, appliances, and textiles in order to keep these items out of landfills and reduce the carbon footprint. Project Move Out provides for free curbside pick-up of bulk items only for Rutgers students who pre-register by noon on May 22. The collection will take place between May 24–26.  Registrants will be assigned a day based upon their address. Learn more and register here.

Rutgers University 257th Anniversary Commencement—Graduating Students
The gates at SHI Stadium open at 8 a.m. on Sunday, May 14. Graduates must arrive by 9 a.m. and head to the field level via the south end of the stadium to the assembly area. The ceremony begins promptly at 10 a.m. Please allow ample time for parking, travel, and entry to SHI Stadium, as traffic will be heavy. Dress for weather, wear comfortable shoes (no heels!), wear sunscreen, and bring sunglasses. The SHI Stadium Bag Policy will be in effect. Please leave personal belongings in the car or at home and only bring phones for fast entrance into the stadium. Graduates and their families may purchase parking hangtags on College Avenue ONLY on May 14 for $10. Family and friends can sign up for email updates regarding Commencement.
